Braurer Corporation BX series

Braurer Corporations’ BX Series

Background: Braurer began research into Bipedal Combat Vehicles in late 2165, after rumors that French Rival, Wittig Arms had reached a functioning prototype. The first test models were based on a walking tank design, which relied on a mixture of heavy armor and stable mobility over high speeds. The first model, the BX-01 Ulysses was considered a failure, as the heavy armor prevented any real mobility. The BX-02 Custer was the testbed for lighter composite alloys, which were nearly as thick as the armor used on the Ulysses. The Custer was refined and the third mech was named for the weapons system’s sales pitch, the Tactically Intuitive Mechanized Assault Technology, TIMAT.

BX-03 TIMAT
Nickname: Grandpa, Iron Patriot
Original Manufacturer: Braurer Corporation
Other Manufacturers: United Nations Defense Force, Elzam Mechanics
Role: Medium Range Assault Land Mech
Weight Class: Heavy
Operators: Earth Federation, United Nations Remnant, North American Republic (NARA)
Standard Weapons: Chain Cannon, Shell Cannon

Description: The TIMAT, a venerable model from the time before the Human Exile, is as well known as it is powerful. Despite its age, it has numerous features that keeps it production to this day. The TIMAT lacks the humanoid appearance of most BCV’s, opting for a more “walking tank” like frame. It’s cockpit is located underneath a shield canopy on the head, as opposed the machine’s chest. It’s legs are more birdlike than humanoid, which grants it greater overland speed than its counterparts. The TIMAT does not have hands, instead its weapons are mounted on the frame. Most TIMATs are equipped with a smooth-bore shell firing gun, and a chain gun.

The TIMAT does suffer several drawbacks. It is much harder to modify its weapons systems. Beyond the difficult installation process required to mount any new system, it must be programmed into the targeting system. While the modern Trainer Targeting Computers can compensate for this, the flexibility of the venerable machine is still limited. Another drawback is its mounted weapons. Special field loaders are required to restock the ammunition of the machine. These must be mounted on a separate transport.

BX-07 Gespallent
Nickname: Gespy, Heavy
Original Manufacturer: Braurer Corporation
Role: High Speed Space Attack Mech
Weight Class: Super Heavy
Operators: Colonial Navy
Standard Weapons: 2x Chain Cannon, 1x Smoke Launcher

Designed by Anthony Gespa and Timothy Lent, the Gespallent was once the workhorse of the FCL’s Naval forces. The Gespallent was built to combat the clumsy spaceborn WA-X437 Ghouls with ruthless efficiency. Mounted with a powerful thruster and its deadly chain guns, the BX-07 darted about the battlefield destroying Ghouls before darting to its next target. While fairly effective in space, on Earth they lose much of their speed, becoming slow moving due to their heavy armor. The Gespallent’s heavy armor and ammunition stores change its role from assault unit to fire support. Much like their predecessor, the TIMAT, the BX-07 requires an external reloading source and cannot be easily customized or modified. Their size was considered a disadvantage against smaller machines, such as the Strife.
Variants

  • BX-07G: Gespallent Gunner Type
  • BX-07F: Gespallent Frontline Type
  • BX-07S Gespallent Special Forces Type

BX-08 Strife
Nickname: Martians
Original Manufacturer: Braurer Corporation
Other Manufacturers: Elzam Mechanics
Operators: Colonial Navy, NARA
Role: General Superiority Unit
Weight Class: Medium
Standard Weapons: 1x Assault Rifle, 1x Combat Shield, 1x Short Blade

The standard BCV of the FCL’s forces, both in space and on the ground. The Strife is an easily customized BCV designed to be enter production in numbers greater than possible with the heavy Gespallents. The Strife is the first Braurer Mech to follow the design conventions of the United Nations, using hand carried weapons instead of mounted ones. This gave the Strife increased flexibility. In space, they can keep pace with a Gespallent and on the earth they are faster. They have lighter armor, which is compensated for by the use of a shield.

Variants

  • BX-08[G] Strife Ground Type
  • BX-08[N] Strife Neolthium Frame

BX-08-2 Strife II
Nicknames: Zweis
Original Manufacturer: Braurer Corporation
Operators: Colonial Navy
Role: General Superiority Unit
Weight Class: Medium
Standard Weapons: 1x Assault Rifle, 1x Combat Shield, 1x Short Blade

Rolled out in AE 11, the Strife II represents the Colonial Navy’s attempt to develop a BCV for use in both Zero Gravity and Terrestrial environments. The Strife II includes numerous advancements made since the creation of the first Strife such as a Panoramic Cockpit and the TACT OS. The Strife II remains the FCL’s primary BCV from AE 11 until AE 26.

BX-10A Gespallent 2
Nickname: Gespy, Chrome Dome
Original Manufacturer: Braurer Corporation
Operators: Colonial Navy
Role: High Speed Space Attack Mech
Weight Class: Heavy Assault
Operators: Colonial Navy
Standard Weapons: 4x Vortex Cannon 2x Missile Launcher

Widely considered the most costly BCV ever produced in quantity, the Gespallent 2 was standard bearer for the Colonial Navy during the later half Exile War. Equipped with powerful Vortex Cannons, it was capable of shredding even battleships. By AE 10, the Tactical Command Units were all issued Gespallent 2s, which could handle the duties placed on the pilots on top of being powerful BCVs in their own right. The BX-10A was the only mass produced model in the series, and was a direct copy of the prototype due to the already high cost of the project.

Now, there are very few BX-10A’s even left. Over half of the original run was destroyed throughout the course of the War. Several damaged machines were rebuilt as BX-10H Gespallent Heavy Weapons Type, which used its heavy frame to mount several powerful weapons. One heavily damaged model was converted into external armor for a custom BX-07. This model became known as the BX-07Y+OA-00 Gespallant Orbital Armor Type.

Variants

  • BX-10H Gespallent Heavy Weapons Type
  • BX-07+OA-00 Gespallant Orbital Armor Type

BX-11 Lancer
Nickname: The Cursed Knights
Original Manufacturer: Braurer Corporation
Operators: Colonial Navy
Role: High Speed Command Type
Weight Class: Light Neolthium Frame
Standard Weapons: Varies. All Models have Shield mounted Shell Cannon and a Phase Melee Weapon (Spear or Sword).

The first combat version Neolthium Frames, the Lancers BX-11A Sword and BX-11B Spear are among the most well known BCVs used during the Exile War. Each is equipped for high speed melee combat and their pilots were more than capable of scoring thirty kills during a sortie. The two versions were equipped differently, despite their similar roles.

The Sword Lancer was equipped with a Phase Sword based on the Phase Spear used by the WA-X505 Banshee and a Phase Shotgun. It’s pilot, Briggs Gordon, would lead the Jade Spear squadron into the thick of an enemy formation, and then fight their way out the other side. His machine was said to be the weakest of the Neolthium Frames, however it remains the only one in existence, being upgraded to the BX-11NC Lancer Knight.

The Spear Lancer was equipped with an enhanced version of the Banshee’s Spear, as well as two CIWS. The Spear Lancer was also equipped with the Counter Field, which could negate the Banshee’s Berserk Drive. It’s pilot, Aisha Liqueur, was a test pilot for Braurer instead of an actual military pilot. She faired poorly in her first sorties.

Variants

  • BX-11A Sword Lancer
  • BX-11B Spear Lancer
  • BX-11NC Lancer Knight

BX-13 Wraith
Nickname: Project Black Angel
Original Manufacturer: Braurer Corporation
Operators: Braurer Corporation, Phoenix Foundation (formerly), Mongoose Company
Role: Weapons Testbed Prototype
Weight Class: Light Frame
Standard Weapons: 1x Power Claw; 1x Gauss Magnum

Part of Project: Black Angel, Braurer’s attempt to create new BCVs, the Wraith was designed to test several new technologies for Colonial Navy’s forces. Due to it’s nature as a test model it is equipped with the unusual combination of a Power Claw and a Gauss Magnum. This does limit the Wraith’s ability to use other weapons as it cannot wield weapons in it’s claw. It is also equipped with a new type of Drive Core dubbed Type-M. This Core can be used to temporarily improve the agility of the machine, however it quickly damages the Synth-muscle used throughout the mech.

While few BX-13’s were produced, none of them were used by the Colonial Navy in any capacity. However, it is known that Braurer’s security forces and the mysterious Phoenix Foundation have made use of them in the field. One such unit is attached to Mongoose Company.
